If Physics department is going to promote undergraduate research, it should at least have money for undergrads to attend a conference or two per year when supervisors cannot afford to send them there. Meeting people from all around the world and learning what they do is part of research and it is important for undergrads to experience that before deciding what they want to do in grad school.
